Image making/Portrait Painting in the style of Waterhouse in a Historic Artist Studio in Chelsea, London, UK
Dates: June 23-June 28, 2026
1 Days of Museum Study
5 Days of Portrait Painting in the Studio
In this workshop, we will create a portrait painting in the style of Waterhouse using some of his motifs in image making. We will first visit Museums, such as the Tate seeking inspiration and observing his techniques and the rich history of portraiture in England, also looking at Sargent, Rosetti, and Millias. Then we will go to the studio and work with a model, looking for graceful poses inspired by Waterhouse and using sketching, photography and photo collage to create a more interesting portrait situation.
This will be a truly engaging artistic experience as we will engage with painting from life, and also creating a more elaborate image through digital design. Steve will lead you through his process of image making from mood boards to thumbnail sketches, photo collage, and his painting technique.
