5 Day Figure Drawing Workshop March 29-April 2, 2010 Taught at BACAA 2007, 2008 returns to teach 2010
Learn to create timeless figure drawings in the tradition of the old masters. This one week intensive workshop focuses on the elements of figure drawing and guides the students through the path necessary to achieve great art. Demonstrations, slide shows and lectures will present you with many opportunities to increase your understanding of the artist's craft while working from life. During the course of the week you will develop your figure drawing, to help you to build successful skills for independent work and problem-solving proficiency. You will gain much practical knowledge to assist along the path of being a contemporary figurative artist.
Drawing the human form is the benchmark of a classical education and forms the focal point of our atelier program. We are not simply copying nature, rather in the spirit of the Greeks, we seek to understand nature so thoroughly that we can reconstruct it to convey the power of life. The goal is unflinching accuracy combined with a thorough knowledge of design. Focus on creating a strong block-in, understanding the gesture, separating the shadow from the light, and then concentrate on understanding and rendering form.
